About
Many of the problems plaguing us are rooted in our refusal to slow down. This is especially true today, as we find our world trapped in a production-consumption cycle that won't be satisfied until everything—from the material to the ideal—is swept up in it. In our compulsion to hurry ourselves along with it, we forget what it is to be a human being, overlooking the rite of thanksgiving that the universe, with or without us, participates in by its inherent, eternal now-ness. I am hopeful, though! We are gradually becoming more aware of the profound psychological, and indeed spiritual, harm our spurring along of this machine of progress is causing (to say nothing of the social and environmental damage...). One needn't look far to see this newfound awareness; just look at the current enthusiasm around mindfulness (despite efforts well underway to commodify this, too).
So, as an exercise to try and slow down myself, I'm starting a blog. It's my hope that it becomes a place in which I can reflect on where I am right now, where I've gone, and where I'm headed. The format lends itself well to this task, I think. The tortoise was right.
Despite what the above musings may suggest, there's really no ~lofty vision~ for this blog, but a visitor can at least expect to see... hmm, well, I hesitate to write anything too prescriptive, because I don't yet know! It's a blog; expect bloggy stuff. Whoever finds themselves here, I hope you will also find the company pleasant. Cheers!
